A new series, I'd like to share about some of my favorite expat blogs. I hope I can touch down on each of them, but I follow nearly 200 blogs. . . I'll give it my best shot.
One of my favorite blogs is One Year in Amsterdam. Each day a new photo of one random spot is featured and I like the concept. It's simple and fun. So today, in honor of Torrey's blog, I have four photos of random spots in the Netherlands to share.
You can click on each photo to see it larger in a new window.
1. In Almere: Grace Kellystraat [English: Grace Kelly Street] in the Filmwijk. Each street in this wijk [English: borough; quarter; neighborhood] of Almere bears either the name of a movie star or relation to movies. For instance Hollywoodlaan [English: Hollywood Lane] or Oscarlaan [English: Oscar Lane]. A few of the notable names found here in this movie neighborhood are Ingrid Bergmanstraat, James Stewartstraat, Bette Davisstraat, Audrey Hepburnstraat, Natalie Woodpad and Hitchcocklaan.
And note: Like us expats, Grace Kelly was also a foreigner living abroad. She was an American Oscar-winning Hollywood actress in the 1950s who married Prince Rainier III of Monaco. Click here to learn more about Grace Kelly, also known as Princess Grace.
And click here for a website about the Filmwijk in Almere [in Dutch].
2. BAM! On this round sticker is Prince Bernhard. BAM stands for Bern Art & Music Festival. Get it? Bern Art. Bernhard. Click here for the website.
3. Hengelo is a city in the Dutch province Overijssel. Click here to learn more about Hengelo. I will write more about Hengelo sometime in the near future.
4. Last, but not least, a windmill! This is 'De Hoop,' found on the way to Nijkerk on the N301 [between Appel and Driedorp] in the Dutch province Gelderland. It's listed as an 8-sided stellingmolen/korenmolen [English: tower mill/flour mill] from 1888. Click here for more information [Dutch], and click here to view the location via Google Maps.

And what a nice picture of the mill against that lovely sky - hollandser kan het niet!! ;)
I hadn't realized that about Grace Kelly, how cool!
I live right next to the Filmwijk! It's a beautiful area; plenty of trees and nice walking/biking paths.

@ Jort: Thanks for your comment on this! There will be more to come soon about Hengelo. My mother-in-law is from the area near, so we make visits often. It's a great area of the Netherlands!
@ Aledys Ver: Thank you! I spied the sticker while talking on my cell phone [in Hengelo]. Had to get my camera out ;-) Thanks for your comment on this!
@ Mub: It is a really cool thought :-) Thanks for your comment on this as well!
